SBG6782 Wireless AC Cable Modem Gateway

Surfboard SBG5782 by Arris is a new DOCSIS 3.0 wireless ac cable modem gateway and gigabit ports.

Overview

Surfboard cable modem series were used to be under Motorola, but they are now under Arris. Motorola introduced two types of wireless cable modem gateway i.e. Surfboard SBG900 DOCSIS 2.0 and SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 wireless N cable gateway. SBG900 is based on legacy wireless G and SBG6580 is based on wireless N standard. Now under Arris umbrella, new wireless cable gateway is introduced which is based on wireless ac (802.11ac).

What does it do?

Surfboard sbg6872 wireless ac gatewayModel is like the previous black SBG6580 but SBG6782 comes with white color, white box with 7 LED indicators in front panel. Back panel is where all the interface ports are located including four Ethernet ports, coaxial cable port and power.

Surfboard SBG6782 is an all-in-one device which includes the cable modem, wireless router, and Gigabit Ethernet switch. It is a compact single device you need to build a high performance wifi network in home with Cable broadband service.

High speed

Surfboard SBG6782 is engineered by the latest DOCSIS 3.0 cable technology which delivers the downstream speed up to 8 channel bonding and downstream speed up to 4 channel bonding. This is ideal modem gateway for users subscribe Cable services from provider with DOCSIS 3.0 infrastructure.

Wired

For wired connection, the modem comes with four Gigabit ports, fast wired to direct connection to your desktop computers or other Ethernet-based media devices including XBOX, Smart TV, Blu-ray and more.

Wifi

SBG6782 is powered by the latest 5th G wifi technology (802.11ac) with the speeds of up to 1300Mbps in 5GHz band, simultaneous dual band wifi and is embedded with the 3×3 MIMO antenna and beamforming technologies for larger range and focus wifi connection to clients. This is ideal for smooth video streaming and online gaming, no jitter no lagging.

Unlike D6200 ADSL wireless ac gateway which includes separate one WAN port for Cable modem connection, you can switch the device as the wireless router and connected to the cable modem when you switch broadband service to Cable. But with SBG6782 you cannot switch from Cable to DSL services.

Multiple SSIDs

SBG6782 supports any standard wireless security in general such as WPA/WPA2, NAT & SPI and more. In addition, this gateway supports multiple SSIDs. You can create up to 8 SSIDs per band, more than enough for network segmentation for your small businesses.

Another new product introduced by Netgear is C6300 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem with wireless AC1750 technology, almost the same with Surfboard 6782 but Netgear comes with one USB 2.0 port and easy to manage using your mobile devices with Netgear Genie Apps. Networking diagram

Figure below shows you typical networking diagram for Surfboard SBG6782 wireless ac cable modem gateway as the center of the wifi network in homes. Should you have multiple media devices including XBOX game console, Blu-ray, Smart TV and more you can use multi-port media adapter such as Netgear WNCE4004.

With concurrent band this modem gateway can support, all of your mobile devices including Android, iOS and other smart-phone can connect to the network simultaneously.
